Lee Zeldin is an American attorney, politician, and officer in the United States Army Reserve. A Republican, he has been a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York, since January 3, 2015. He is the Republican nominee for Governor of New York for 2022.
Lee is the son of Merrill and David Zeldin. He was raised in Conservative Judaism. He grew up in Suffolk County, New York.
Lee is married to Diana, with whom he has two children. Diana is a member of the LDS (Mormon) church.
Lee’s paternal grandfather was Abraham Jack Zeldin (the son of Morris Zeldin and Esther Shlyapocznik/Shlapochnik/Shlapotznik). Abraham was born in New York, to Belarusian Jewish parents, from, near Minsk. Morris was an organizer of the United Jewish Appeal of New York, and a Zionist pioneer.
