Michael Lerner was an American actor. His roles included the films The Candidate, The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981), National Lampoon’s Class Reunion, Strange Invaders, Eight Men Out, Harlem Nights, Barton Fink, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, Newsies, Amos & Andrew, No Escape, For Richer or Poorer, Godzilla (1998), Celebrity, Elf, My Favorite Martian, Poster Boy, A Serious Man, and X-Men: Days of Future Past, and television’s Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Entourage, among many other works, including stage performances.
Michael was the son of Blanche and Joseph Meyer Lerner. His father was born in New York, to Romanian Jewish parents. His mother was also born in New York, to a Russian Jewish father and a Romanian Jewish mother. He was raised in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and in Solon, Ohio. He was the brother of actor Ken Lerner and the uncle of actor Sam Lerner, who is Ken’s son.
