Miriam Margolyes is an English-Australian character actress and voice artist. She became an Australian citizen in 2013. Miriam is the daughter of Ruth (Sandeman/Walters) and Joseph Margolyes. Her father was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and her mother was born in England. Her parents were both Jewish.
Miriam’s paternal grandparents were Philip Margolyes (the son of Simon Margolyes and Golda Goldstone) and Rebecca Turiansky (the daughter of Bernard Turiansky and Sarah Gelbord). Philip was born in Belarus. Rebecca was born in Russia.
Miriam’s maternal grandparents were Sigismund/Sidney Sandeman/Walters (the son of Simon/Samuel/Simcha Sandeman and Hannah) and Flora Posner (the daughter of Jacob Posner and Bertha Snapper). Flora was born in England, to parents from Germany, with her mother being from Prussia.
