Matthew is the son of Beverly (Bannister) and Matt Centrowitz. His father is a two-time Olympic distance runner, and collegiate cross country and track coach.
Matthew, Jr.’s paternal grandfather was Jewish. It is not clear if his paternal grandmother was Jewish, too, but Matthew, Jr.’s father attended a Catholic school.
