Rick Rubin is an American record producer and former co-president of Columbia Records. Along with Russell Simmons, Rubin is the co-founder of Def Jam Records and also established American Recordings. His father, Mickey Martin Rubin, was a shoe wholesaler. His mother, Linda, is a housewife.
Rick’s paternal grandparents were Jack Rubin (the son of Solomon “Samuel/Sam” Rubin and Marie “Mary” Anenberg) and Birdie Reiss (the daughter of Jacob Reiss and Rosie Pasternak). Solomon was born in Russia, to Max Rubin and Nichama Cohen. Marie was also born in Russia, to Morris Anenberg and Zena Cohen. Rick’s great-grandfather Jacob was born in Austria, to Joseph Reiss and Sarah Hirsch. Rosie was also an Austrian Jewish immigrant.
